Good blog- I just wonder though- what is the difference between NFP and other types BC (not the pill). Both are used to avoid pregnancy....that is what I see. Is it the sacrafice of not being close that is the good part?
I think it is that NFP works WITH the system God designed, not against it. It is the thing I have the hardest time wrapping my mind around with the NFP/ABC debate.
I had a good laugh at the man who said that only people under 40 have to worry about this debate. I know a number of women who have had two children in their 40's - including my grandmother. I don't know what to do for my dd in advice. They have 35 years of reproduction to go and she was pregnant on her wedding night. They want the best for their children....She is a good mommy- but she cannot see herself with 17 kids....
NFP uses the "built in" fertility cycle. There is no *mandate* that married couples *have* to make love at a certain times. There is also precedence for periodic abstinence (anyone familiar with the Mosaic laws? although, following the minimal abstention timing called for there is actually MORE likely to result in conception in the average woman who has a 28 day cycle... as a matter of fact, it is highly likely that the barrenness of some of the Biblical women was simply poor timing - that their bodies ovulated early - during the proscribed time of abstinence)...
I think I'm starting to ramble.
Anyway, like any other type of birth control, NFP CAN be abused and used with an attitude of "NO CHILDREN" - being closed to life. But in and of itself, (ie - not attached to said attitude), there is nothing gravely sinful with it.
Thanks... it WAS a good blog post.
