If you Don't Want to Go to Church, you are Looking for the Wrong Thing or in the Wrong Church

So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore by Jake Colsen

My review

A minister in the funks meets a guy named John who reminds him of the apostle John. They discuss faith, church and the spiritual life. Basically this book is a sermon barely disguised as a novel, and it is pure "have faith, not religon" and "the church won't save you". The minister's church is the basic generic Protestant church and "John" points out that all its strenghts are weaknesses. However, John doesn't lead him to the truth that is the Eucharist, but rather to the idea that relationship with God is found on a personal level, and that churches often get in the way. Instead of pointing out that we celebrate mass to honor God, John points out the weaknesses of churches based on business models that have growth and buildings as their goals as a response to problems with people leaving the church for another (or no church).

I guess if you see religion as a "me & God" thing only, this book would be right up your alley, but it certainly doesn't represent my view of the Church as the Body of Christ.
