Sometimes What Goes Around Comes Around

I've been wanting to read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I've been reading other bloggers reviews, and had been entering giveaways hoping to score a copy. Last month was a good one for me with Amazon; several people bought books by clicking on my links so I should have a gift certificate in my hands shortly. I figured that would be the book I'd buy.

As a book review blogger, a tremendous number of books pass through my hands; most of which I get free from publicists in return for mentioning them on this blog. I'm not big on re-reading books and I only have so much storage space so I had to figure out what to do with all those books. I settled on putting them in a box outside my office and letting my co-workers have them. A co-worker who reads a lot and who used to haul his books to the now-closed VA hospital liked my idea and regularly adds his discards to my box. Well, I walked into my office one day last week, and a copy of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was sitting on my desk! I kind of wondered if it was from that co-worker, but it wasn't his usual style of book, but he said it was. It made my day. Tonite I got an email from Janelle at Brimful Curiosities telling me I won a copy. I told her she could give it to someone else, but winning made me smile.

  3. This sounds like a good book and I love the title! I am glad that you got a copy of a book that you really wanted to read.

Your idea of the box outside your office is a great idea.

Thanks to your own example, I have started a box of books that I have read that I think my family members might enjoy. So, I am accumulating a box for them to go through when they visit for the holidays and pick any that they may want.

You are very generous with your own sharing and giveaways, RAnn! Thank you! We appreciate it so much.

  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I use Bookmooch regularly, but was to the point where I had far more points than I had time to read books, and I don't want to pay to give the books away. I enjoy making my co-workers happy and since I go to work every day, it isn't an extra step.

  7. Bookcrossing does not cost anything you just put a mote in the front of your book with the ID number and then drop it in your box and see where it ends up.
