Book Review: Love is a Battlefield

Maybe its just my mood today, but this was the second mediocre Christian romance I read today. Love Is a Battlefield (A Walk in the Park) isn't a bad book, but it isn't exceptionally good either. The heroine is Kristy. The book begins on her first day back at work following her honeymoon cruise--a cruise she took by herself because her intended never showed up for the wedding. Since she had planned to move to a different state with her fiancée, she quit her beloved job as a park ranger at Shiloh National Military Park before the wedding. She returns to find her job and office taken by Ace, but she is allowed to work as a seasonal ranger. The book follows their relationship that summer.

Kristy doesn't believe in true love. Ace is attracted to her and is regretting his last moments with a woman he loved (but not in that way) who was killed in a car accident moments after telling him that she loved him (yes, in that way). He wants her and wants her to believe in love. She is being courted by another man as well. Somehow, I knew how the book would end.

Conflicts in the book include Kristy's relationship with her ex, her relationship with Ace, and her relationship with her mother's friend's son. There is also conflict between Kristy and her sister and conflict with her dad is mentioned. By the end of the book everything is tied into a bow--pretty much a completely happy ending. Again, not a great book but not really a bad one either.

The book is Christian fiction and I found the faith elements to be forced.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for participating in the upcoming First Wildcard Tour. I was not obligated to review the book

  1. I had requested this one but didn't make the list - sounds like that was not a bad thing
