Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

You know what they say about the best-laid plans.  This was supposed to be my catch-up weekend.  I had planned to take Friday off just because I had days left to use.  I figured I'd go to mass, go shopping, read, blog and generally do what I wanted.  Strike 1 was when I got a doctor's appointment scheduled for Friday at the local medical behemoth--you know, the place where you park in the garage, walk a mile to the elevator, and then maybe get run all over the place for tests. Well, I did need the appointment, so I figured I'd just hope it was an in and out thing.
Strike 2:  My little one threw up Wed. nite and complained of a stomach ache Thursday morning.  Guess who got to stay home with her (and enjoyed a day of closet cleaning and laundry)?  Strike 3:  Doctor's office called, they scheduled me with the wrong doc;could I come in Monday instead--not that I really had any choice.  Given that I had lost a day already, I figured that w/out the doctor's office excuse, I'd better show up Friday and bill some time, since it looks like I'm taking at least some time off Monday afternoon.  Strike Four:  You know that stomach bug my little one had Thursday?  Well, I got a more severe version last nite.  I've spent the whole day in bed.

I tend to do most of my posting on the weekend, and this weekend hasn't been the best.  The closest thing to a Catholic post I have this week is an interview with the author of Southern Fried Child in Home-Seeker's Paradise.    Some of the anecdotes in the book are about a Protestant child in a Catholic school back in the habited nun days.

  1. I hope you feel better! The flu season is tough!

My theme this week was birds--O for the Wings of a Dove by Mendelssohn, A Peacock and Doves in a Garden by Eugene Bidau, The Lay of the Golden Goose by Louisa May Alcott and Weewoo, the talking starling!

I blogged on Friday about St. Teresa's Interior Castle, and 2 prayer requests, and Scripture Saturday was about peace.

  2. Hi RAnn, thanks for hosting. Sorry you had such a bad week. We've been running to vets and getting our dog surgery (in my Sabbath Moments post). Then today the microwave blew out two electrical circuits. We had to get an electrician over to fix the mess and go buy a new microwave. The one that blew was 17 years old. And I'm coming down with a cold or sinus infection - can't tell which. Maybe we should have a post about disasters of the week! We have to keep a sense of humor, don't we?

  3. I have great sympathy with the stomach. I felt terrible for two days this week & it was no fun at all.

  5. The daily readings (lectionary) had lots to say about practical mom issues this week! Gossip, persecution for our faith, and fatigue in prayer were all topics of our daily meditation. Please stop by and take a look!

  6. Sorry, you didn't get to enjoy time to yourself as you had hoped, RAnn. "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry" not to mention moms and swamped bloggers.

Feel better soon, I'm adding my prayers.

  7. This week on Sunday Snippets, WBN presents Live! In 4D!

You’d have to be blind not to be able to see the baby in there but for some people it takes a special illumination.

Up to now, we've had what you'd call in Poker a "Full House - queens over kings", which means 3 girls and two boys. With this latest roll of the dice it was either going to be Red or Black - put your money down. We looked the dealer in the eye, pushed the chips to the middle, went all in and said "Hit Me". The roulette wheel spun, the house made odds, and the jackpot lit.

  9. Thanks RAnn for hosting!
Last week we were on a pilgrimage to Ireland National Shrine in Knock. There was a reporter on the trip with us, and her account was broadcasted on national radio. It can be found on Dominicans Interactive.

  10. Let's see...senior citizens and bar fights, St. Maximus the Confessor responds to Protestants, St. Augustine tackles free will, and the book of Malachi on marriage and families...that's what was up last week at Bedlam or Parnassus.
