Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

Hello, and welcome to Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. We are a group of Catholic bloggers who gather weekly to share our best posts with each other. To participate, go to your blog and create a post titled Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. In it, discuss and link to your posts for the week--whether they deal with theology, Catholic living or cute Catholic kids. I'm mostly a book blogger so my posts are generally book reviews, some Catholic, some not. Make sure that post links back here. Once you publish it, come back here and leave a link below.

I'm glad you are here and if you'd like a weekly reminder to post, join our yahoogroup.

Do you all publish your posts as you write them, or do you pre-schedule some or most of them?  As a mostly book blogger, I do both.  Some books are sent to me with the understanding that I'll post on a certain date.  Others are for review at any time, and generally I publish those reviews as I write them.  If I review a library book or book I own, then I publish them as I write them.  I also have access to some pre-published books and am often asked to hold my reviews until close to publication, so I do.

I spent March of this year out of town on business and was working all the time.  During that time my backlog disappeared and it is just now building back up to its normal size.  That means I have a lot of posts this week:
The Shadow of Your Smile is about a woman who, after a car accident, lost her memories of the last twenty-five years.  Today, would you marry the person your spouse is today?
Vintage Cakes is a yummy-looking cookbook.
52 Ways to Wow Your Husband is a marriage-improvement book by a minister's wife.
Big Sky Country is a Western Romance.
River's End is a coming of age story set in the 1970's.

  1. I also do a little bit of both, RAnn. I try to think ahead when I can and pre-post, but it doesn't always work out that way. :)

Speaking of posts, I only have two this week: One is a little link love to some thought-provoking blog articles and (not a specifically Catholic post) a recipe from my childhood, old-fashioned chocolate egg cream.

  2. Thanks for hosting , RAnn!
Some of my posts are written, or at least started, ahead of time, while others are written on the spur of the moment. And then there are the ones I re-post periodically.
This week's posts include a link to an absolutely brilliant post from a newly discovered blog, "Written By the Finger of God," a greatly expanded version of one of my old posts about veiling (in response to another post on that same blog), several videos from EWTN, a disturbing video shared by Patrick Madrid on Facebook, (the video is from YouTube, and there are some vulgar comments), a sickening article from LifeNews.com, and several posts about books, including, of course, my weekly book list.

  3. I do both. It would probably be good to have more of a back long scheduled for when I have bad weeks, but I always have something percolating in my mind.

Hello! I just realized I have been doing the Sunday Snippets wrong! I've been linking my posts directly instead of a post of my own snippets. Now that I figured it out I fixed it :o)

  5. Topics this week include giving away a former student at her wedding, the inability of many to speak or write coherently and what can be done about it, the effect on a Christian of spending 40,000 hours in an anti-Christ environment, and the pornification of sports...all that and more in this week's posts.

As for your question, RAnn, I mostly just post as I write. Sometimes ideas start to pile up, so I have an idea of what I will be posting, but only rarely do I write, save the writing, and post later.

  6. I'l have to catch up on the reviews later today or tomorrow--this summer has turned into a whirlwind! Vintage cakes looks interesting. :)

I would like to post mine ahead because it would render the mornings less crazy, but I almost never get it done... :(

  7. RAnn, I just don't know how you do it !! I have books to review that take me forever to get out. None really have a deadline, thankfully....but of course if I DID have a deadline, I'd probably be more attentive!

    Thanks again!!

  9. Hi RAnn. Thanks for hosting this crew. It's still fun being here.

I usually post as I go. It's as organized as I can get on most days. This was a busy week.
