Monday Memes

Join Sheila and the gang to see what everyone is reading this week.  I've been working on two books:
Bridge To Happiness is my treadmill book.  It's an interesting family story
Who Is My Shelter? (Yada Yada House of Hope, Book 4) is in my Kindle.  It is about a recently divorced woman's relationships--with her kids, her co-workers, her ex, her gentleman caller, and her God.

A lot of my reviews of NetGalley books published this week (most publishers ask you to hold the reviews until 30 days before the book publishes).

Mine Is the Night: A Novel
Stepping from a bared coach on a rainy April eve, newly widowed Elisabeth Kerr must begin again, without husband or title, property or fortune. She is unafraid of work and gifted with a needle, but how will she stitch together the tattered remnants of her life? And who will mend her heart, torn asunder by betrayal and deception?
Elisabeth has not come to Selkirk alone. Her mother-in-law, Marjory Kerr, is a woman undone, having buried her husband, her sons, and any promise of grandchildren. Dependent upon a distant cousin with meager resources, Marjory dreads the future almost as much as she regrets the past. Yet joy still comes knocking, and hope is often found in unexpected places.
Then a worthy hero steps forward, rekindling a spark of hope. Will he risk his reputation to defend two women labeled as traitors to the Crown? Or will a wealthy beauty, untainted by scandal, capture his affections?
The heartrending journey of the Kerr women comes to a glorious finish in Mine Is the Night, a sparkling gem of redemption and restoration set in eighteenth-century Scotland. (For a First Wildcard Tour)
When Ella’s father passes away, she’s forced to auction most of his belongings, including her family’s land. Though she knows she couldn't manage the fifty acres on her own, she can’t stop the bitterness she feels toward the new owner, Loyal Weaver. Remodeling and repairing the Troyer’s old farmhouse, he intends to make the farm profitable—everything Ella had once dreamed of doing.

Protective of Ella's bruised feelings, Loyal asks her for help and advice for the home he’s fixing up—the home that he secretly hopes will be hers again, as his wife.
But the one thing Ella guards against all else is her heart. Always the wallflower, she’s used duty to mask her loneliness. Now, though, she can't deny the feelings she holds for Loyal and the happiness he promises. On her own for the first time, will she find the courage to risk everything to get the love she’s always wanted? (NetGalley)
Lucy Troyer is traveling by train from Berlin, Ohio to Middlefield to help care for her cousin Mattie, who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Lucy has always been fond of Mattie, plus she’s nursing a broken heart. The man she courted for two years just became engaged to her best friend. She’s anxious to get away.

Calvin Weaver’s on his way home from attending an auction for some new horses. He’s used to feeling somewhat respected, given that his family owns quite a bit of land in Middlefield, and his great grandfather founded the town. Actually, he’s used to being catered to…he’s handsome and outgoing. Good marriage material.

When their train breaks down outside of Cleveland Calvin and Lucy realize they are the only two Amish people aboard the train, so they band together to find a place to stay for the night. But Calvin is taken aback by Lucy’s independent ways and lack of interest in him. Their fragile truce falls apart when they get to Middlefield. Lucy’s busy with caring for Mattie and Calvin is busy helping run the town. But neither can completely forget the bond that was forged on that train.
Calvin decides it’s time to court Lucy in earnest…before she leaves his life forever. (Net Galley)

 The Ideal Man

Dr. Ellie Sullivan has just completed her residency at a large urban hospital. While jogging in a park nearby, she witnesses the shooting of an FBI agent in pursuit of wanted criminals, a couple identified as the Landrys. The only person to see the shooter's face, Ellie is suddenly at the center of a criminal investigation.
Agent Max Daniels takes over the Landry case. A no-nonsense lawman, he's definitely not the ideal man that Ellie has always imagined, yet she's attracted to him in a way she can't explain.
Ellie heads home to Winston Falls, South Carolina, to attend her sister's wedding. Shortly after she arrives, though, she receives a surprise visitor: Max Daniels. The Landrys have been captured, and she'll be called to testify. But they've been captured before, and each time the witnesses are scared into silence-or disappear before they can take the stand. Max vows to be Ellie's shadow until the trial, and it isn't long before sparks fly.

Have a great week and happy reading to all.

  6. I'm reading Led by Faith by Immaculee Ilibagiza and The China Study by T. Campbell.I'm not a huge novel person, 90% of the time I prefer nonfiction, but "Who is my Shelter" looks like something I might enjoy. I'm going to add it to my amazon wishlist.
