Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

Hello, and welcome to Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. We are a group of Catholic bloggers who gather weekly to share our best posts with each other. To participate, go to your blog and create a post titled Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. In it, discuss and link to your posts for the week--whether they deal with theology, Catholic living or cute Catholic kids. I'm mostly a book blogger so my posts are generally book reviews, some Catholic, some not. Make sure that post links back here. Once you publish it, come back here and leave a link below.

We also have a yahoogroup; signing up for it will get you one weekly reminder to post.  Click here to sign up.

This week our question of the week is:  Do you have any suggestions regarding the Rosary? Books? Audios? Ways to pray it?  My Answer:  Nope.  I'm hoping to pick up some ideas.  Saying the Rosary is one of those things I sometimes think I ought to do and definitely not one of the things I want to do.

I am going to be out of Questions of the Week at the end of the year.  Do you like this feature?  If so, please click here to suggest some questions.

I participated in 7 Quick Takes this week, basically giving a run-down of my week.  When I went to look for the link-up at Jennifer's blog, I saw she had another link-up, about the state of faith in your area.  I answered it, and then today, based on what I did at work yesterday and today, revised it just a few minutes ago.  I also reviewed some romance novels but none were "must reads".  The links are on my sidebar.

  1. All my best stories about the Rosary are from others for whom it is very important. My favorite is my grandmother's (recently deceased) story about Pearl Harbor. She said that night she & her husband said a rosary, and they've said it every day since. I say parts of the rosary a lot to close my brain down at night, but I'm afraid that's not what most people would approve of. :)

  2. Thank you RAnn for hosting our snippets.
My very favorite way to pray the rosary is a scriptural rosary in which each Hail Mary is preceded by a scripture verse pertaining to the mystery being prayed. As you pray in this way, a powerful picture emerges with each verse. It is clear that the prayer is Christ-centered and Salvation-centered; also meditation is supported throughout by the voice of scripture, prayerfully present..

  3. I like to pray the Rosary in a group. I don't pray it by myself.

  4. Thanks for hosting, RAnn. This is adapted from an old post on my blog.
There are so many ways to pray the Rosary.
1: With a book or website of Rosary meditations.
2: With a Scriptural Rosary book or website, one verse for each bead.
3: By adding one or more words to the Hail Mary. For example,
"And blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus, born in poverty."
4: While watching one of the televised Rosary programs on EWTN.
    5: Before the Blessed Sacrament.
6: While doing the housework, thus uniting my housework to Our Lady's.
Believe me, she did housework, and she didn't have the modern appliances
    we have nowadays.

    1. I especially like this: "Believe me, she did housework, and she didn't have the modern appliances." Housework takes on air of holiness, or at least the possibility..

  5. Garry Wills has an excellent little book - aren't most of his books little? - on the rosary. He prays it daily. A good book to get a loved one started saying the rosary.

  6. I pray the Rosary daily before I go to sleep at night. I like the Scriptural rosaries on occasion, but I usually make it praise by thinking about the words I'm saying. We can never say "I love you" to someone too many times, which is why I never mind the repetition. When I am too sick to do anything else I pray the Rosary and other chaplets using the rosary beads.
