Jantsen's Gift: A review and giveaway

When tragedy strikes your life, you have two choices. You can curl up in a ball and wallow in your own misery, or you can reach out to others and heal your pain by giving of yourself. Pam Cope, the author of Jantsen's Gift, did both. Her son dropped dead suddenly one day due to an unknown heart ailment. She was devestated and became clinically depressed. She was unable to function as a mother to her daughter or a wife to her husband. She quit her job. All she did was sleep.

About five months after her son died, while trying to find something to do with the money people gave as a memorial to him, she travelled to Viet Nam with some friends. She came back ready to adopt an orphan and start a charity to aid other orphans. Next she became concerned about traffiked children--those sold into sexual or other slavery. She ends up adopting two children from Southeast Asia and facilitating the adoption of others. Next, she turns her interest to Ghana where children are traffiked to work in fishing boats on Lake Volta.

Check out her website to learn more about Touch A Life.

  9. I am a newcomer to your blog but today I went back and read the book reviews from earlier in 2009 and 2008.

There is a book that you reviewed in 2008 that I do not think that I would want to read. That book is Elsie Times Eight. The book does not seem like my style of reading even if I was reading it to children. From what I read about the book in the 2008 review, I don't think that it has a very good message for children. When the children ask for a certain number of things, they are given much more. To me, this book sends the wrong message, that more is better and that you get whatever you ask for. Whiile that is good in some cases, in many other cases, it is not. So, I don't think that I would enjoy reading Elsie Times Eight.

  10. After reading the 2008 book reviews on your blog, there were two that stood out to me to be books that I would enjoy reading.

The first one is Never Say Diet. One of my resolutions for 2009 is to lose 25 lbs. This book seems to have good ideas to help me accomplish that goal. I am the type that needs motivation and goals to accomplish weight loss. Sometimes reading a book about weight loss gives me the motivation and ideas to accomplish my goals. I know that exercise is the key to weight loss so this book would motivate me to exercise more. I also like the idea of some food suggestions such as the chicken. Plus, the info about staying within a certain calorie range is good too. Since the author has lost a lot of weight herself, I think this book would help me accomplish my weight loss goal this year. Reading a Christian based diet book is a nice idea! I am going to find this book, Never Say Diet! Thank you for the review.

Another great book that I noticed on your 2008 reviews is As Sweet as Christmas. I am a fan of Debbie Maccomber and anything she writes, I love to read! Her books are like sitting down with an old friend. She writes about interesting characters and has a wonderful Christian message in many of her books. I look forward to reading As Sweet as Christmas.

Thanks for your hard work. The reviews are very helpful!
