Catholic Company Book Review: Burst: A Story of God's Grace When Life Falls Apart

About the Book:
When a vine of vessels in Kevin Wells's brain burst one ordinary evening, his life took an unanticipated turn. The former sports journalist had dealt with infertility, adoption fraud, and the murder of his beloved uncle, Msgr. Tom Wells, but this was a new low. Wells fought back with good humor and persistent faith and offers hard-earned encouragement for those struggling through hard times and looking for a reason to hang on.

KEVIN WELLS is a former sports reporter who last wrote for the Tampa Tribune, where he covered the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team and other sports. Today he is vice president for a three-generation family masonry contracting company. He lives in Crofton, Maryland, with his wife and three children, where he is a freelance writer and active in prison ministry

My Comments:
I really enjoyed this book. Wells comes across as a real guy, a guy's guy, but also as a man with a deep Catholic faith. He is able to take us through some real low points in his life, recognize the hand of God in them, tell us about his faith and still tell an engaging story that doesn't make him come across as somehow better than us "normal" folks. It is a book that can be read straight through as an engaging story, or one that can be read in small pieces with time taken for meditation. No, it isn't "normal" for a young father to find a
brain condition that could kill him, but we all have crosses of one sort or another to bear. Wells doesn't seem any fonder of his crosses than I am of mine, but he does manage to see the hand of God in his life, and seeing him do that encourages me to do the same.
