Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

Hello, and welcome to Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. We are a group of Catholic bloggers who gather weekly to share our best posts with each other. To participate, go to your blog and create a post titled Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival. In it, discuss and link to your posts for the week--whether they deal with theology, Catholic living or cute Catholic kids. I'm mostly a book blogger so my posts are generally book reviews, some Catholic, some not. Make sure that post links back here. Once you publish it, come back here and leave a link below.

I'm glad you are here and if you'd like a weekly reminder to post, join our yahoogroup.

My daughter and I had a good time visiting The University of Louisiana--Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana--Lafayette and Nicholls State University.  Her favorite before we left, and after the trip as well, was Northwestern.  Luckily it is also the school that seemed   most likely to offer her a substantial scholarship.  It is a relatively small school on a beautiful campus in a small town in the middle of nowhere.  She thought ULL was too big (the same complaint she has about LSU) but said she could be happy at any of the others.  It seems hard to believe that a year from now we'll be getting ready to help her leave the nest.

I managed to get some blogging done this week too.  Cottage by the Sea is about a woman whose father is dying.  Glamorous Illusions is about a young woman taking the "Grand Tour" of Europe with siblings she didn't know she had a few weeks ago.   Barefoot Summer is about a veteran returned from war.  Mary Magdelene is one of those books that I wished I could have liked more than I did; and I know there are those who really enjoyed it.

  1. It is hard to believe! I'm starting to be flabbergasted by the long legs and height on my oldest...definitely not a little boy anymore. Well, he still is, but it makes the passage of time very clear to me.

  2. So glad you and your daugther had a good trip.

This week I am hosting a giveaway for "Sons of Cain (picking a winner on Monday so enter soon!), giving a peek into our summer homeschooling curriculum and a reflection on the Fortnight for Freedom.

  3. Hi RAnn, It's great to be here again with everyone. I'm checking out your Mary Magdalene review.

How fortunate your daughter can get a good scholarship. College is way too expensive these days so having a child who is a good student is a blessing.

  4. I was a kid at LSU when my father was a student. It is indeed a huge school.

I suppose the stadium doesn't have dorms under it anymore. That seemed like science fiction when I was little.

  5. Thank you once again RAnn, and blessings on all you Sunday Snippet bloggers.

RAnn, I'm happy for you and your daughter. It's a marvelous time in a young person's life. I've been in touch with some of the people who were part of my formative years at Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing 50 years ago, and marvel at the lives they went on to live, and are now again sharing.
I pray these remain beautiful times for you both with angels surrounding and protecting.

  6. Posts this week talk about Veggie Tales, how we teach the faith to our children, the role of the state in education, and the responsibility of Christians in the field of education.

Blessings to you and your daughter, RAnn! It is an exciting, scary, wonderful time indeed.
