Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

I'd like to welcome you to Sunday Snippets--a Catholic Carnival.   Even for those folks unfortunate enough not to live in New Orleans, or so unfortunate as to be rooting for the Colts, it  is a chance for Catholic bloggers to share their best posts with others. It doesn't matter if you blog exclusively about things Catholic or just do so sometimes (like me), you are welcome to join us--even if you are a Colts fan.

Speaking of being unfortunate enough not to live in New Orleans, you all really are missing a great time.  It is the first weekend of big Carnival parades, and, in case you didn't know, the Saints are in the Superbowl!  The game may be in Miami, but the parties are here.  Even the San Francisco paper realizes it  Our hotels are full and everyone I know is planning to be at some Superbowl party. I have the day off Monday, as does my five year old, who attends a Catholic school. My teens are in public school, and while they haven't cancelled classes, the teachers (those of them who don't take a sick day) have been told to work with kids who are absent and let them make up work.  When we won the NFC championship two weeks ago, the absentee rate for the public schools was close to 20%.   Anyplace you go, the uniform of the day is black and gold.  Most parishes are cancelling the Sunday night mass (and the archbishop is going to be at the game--wearing a gold cross with his black suit).  Half the time I've spent reading email at work has been spent reading emails about the Saints.  Everyone is in a great mood, and win or lose our Saints are being honored with a parade Tuesday.  I'm sure all the Carnival parades this  year will somehow work a Saints float into their theme.  Yes, we are having a great time, and we wish you were with us!

How to participate in Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival?   Go to your blog and create a post titled Sunday Snippets--a Catholic Carnival and in it, highlight one or more of your posts from this week, with links to the posts. Then come back here and leave a direct link to that post on Mr. Linky. Then go visit the other participants. If you don't post often, you can leave a direct link to a post on Mr. Linky, but your blog should have a link back to this post. Sunday Snippets is a two-way link-up. The idea is to share readers.

If you'd like to sign up to get a weekly reminder to post, subscribe to our yahoogroup.

  1. Hi RAnn,

I know you are a die-hard Saints fan and that's ok, I'm a die-hard Colts fan, but we can still be friends. Anyway there is a Manning connection with the Saints...and if the Saints win I can live with that.

Enjoy the game and the parties and I'll post again next week.

  2. As a native New Orleanian (now transplanted to Kansas) I remember when the Saints first began to play football there. And as a newly graduated registered nurse, I gave Peyton Manning his first bath after he was born at Southern Baptist Hospital, then brought him to his parents Archie and Victoria Manning. All in all, tomorrow's game will be a singular event for me. Of course I hope that the Saints win--my parents still live in the New Orleans area. Thanks for the invitation to your link!

  5. Thank you for the invitation, RAnn! I must confess, however, that living just minutes away from Indianapolis, where everything is hosed down in blue today, I have to pull Peyton and the boys!
