Saint Patrick by Jonathan Rogers: My Review

Saint Patrick (Christian Encounters Series)
A fun thing about being a book blogger is getting to read a bunch of books you like, and not having to pay for them.  A not-so-fun thing is having to write reviews of books you really didn't enjoy reading.  Guess who is having a not-so-fun time?  Sometimes books I don't like are just plain bad--I didn't like them, and I don't think you will either.  Other times I have to admit, there wasn't anything really wrong with the book, I just didn't like it.  That is the case here.

It is a short, small book--the main text is only about 100 pages long.  Jonathan Rogers traces St. Patrick's life, often giving a short narration, followed by quotes from St. Patrick's works to further illustrate the point.  The book concludes with about thirty pages of Patrick's writings, followed by seven pages of end notes.

I tend to like biographies that read like stories; this one reads more like a scholarly article.  It touched not only on the biographical facts, but gave historical background of the times and extensively quoted St. Patrick's theological writings.
