All of Me: Review and Contest

I like romance novels; both the secular and Christian versions. I like happy endings, easy reading and love. I know they aren't great literature that will be read through the ages, but they are fun. I know some readers of Christian fiction prefer not to read mass market romances because of the sexual content; but that doesn't bother me, as you may have noticed based on the books I've reviewed. Personally I don't think my expectations of romance novels are very high, but unfortunately All of Me didn't quite meet them. The story concept was good--a single attorney from Houston is left a lake house by her boss and mentor, who has been more of a father to her than her own ever was. Since his job has been taken by a man with whom she had an affair, who propositions her again on his first day on the job, she quits and decides to move to this lake house. The only problem is that when she gets there she finds his son-in-law (his daughter recently died) living there. He says the house was deeded to him four months ago. Of course the paperwork is a problem, of course there is no place else in this small town for either of them to live while sorting it out, of course sparks fly...

My basic problem with the book is that I found the language crude, and for no reason. Instead of all the other words that can be used to refer to one's backside, the one that starts with A was consistantly used. At some point he becomes physically aroused, and the story says something about him not wanting her to see his boner. There is one explicit sex scene and it is pretty much on par with what is expected in a book like this.

If this sounds like a book you'd like, Hatchette is allowing me to give away five copies. For one entry, leave me a comment with you name and email. For a second and entry, find another romance in my archives, name it in a comment and tell me whether I liked it our not, one comment per entry. The giveaway is subject to the usual Hatchette limitations: US and Canada only, no PO boxes.

  1. Don't enter me. I already know I won't like it because of the s*x and language issues. I so appreciate when a reviewer is honest and especially when they point out the crude/vulgar aspects. It's something I try to do as well.
