Review and Giveaway: Girls In Trucks

What happens when a Southern debutaunte moves to New York City? I guess the first question is why a Southern deb from Charleston, SC would move to New York City. Remember, a deb is a girl from old money and established families. The purpose of her debute is to marry her off to the right kind of guy. So, why is she in New York, away from family, away from her privileged position in society? In Girls In Trucks, it is because she doesn't feel she fits the mold. She doesn't want to obey the rules, she wants to set her own. USA Today said the book was about "good girls and bad choices". Mostly it was about bad choices, repeated bad choices, but my guess is that Daddy's money made some of those bad choices possible. It is a book about too much sex with the wrong kind of men, drug use and dispair. It is about realizing that even someone who loathes herself can have love in her life.

The book mentions a lot of sexual situations, but is not sexually graphic. The ending is hopeful, but I wouldn't call it happy.

The writing was good, the plot line interesting. Like some other reviewers, I really didn't care for (meaning like, or become emotionally invested in) the characters, but I did think I knew Sarah by the time the book was over.

Would you like to know Sarah? Hatchette is letting me give away five copies of this book to anyone with a US or Canadian mailing address (no PO boxes). For one entry, leave a comment saying you want to win. For another entry, blog about this contest.
